Ayurvedic concept of eye diseasesEyes which is one of the most important organs in Ayurveda, the five elements play a role in maintaining eye health. Land (Prithivi) governs the muscular part of the eyes, fire (tejas) the rules of blood vessels, air (vayu) regulates the color, water (apu) dominates the white area, and space (Akasha) controls tear ducts and channels.

Ayurvedic according to studies, eye problems are caused by disruption of one of the three doshas ie an imbalance in Vata, Pitta and kapha doshas.

Inadequate care of the eyes may result in the following:
- vision problems (need for glasses)
- cataracts
- damaged retinas
- blindness

Causes
Vata disorders in the eyes tend to lead to dryness, poor vision and eyestrain.
Pitta imbalances can cause burns, swelling, pus, yellow, and red.
Kapha disturbance causes blurred vision, glaucoma, cataracts, thick pus and watery eyes.
